Dental Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy in dentistry was introduced in Chile in 2003 as a revolutionary method to treat caries quickly and painlessly.
Ozone destroys bacteria, this effect can be attributed to its high oxidation capacity. Since no anaerobic bacteria, viruses, protozoa or fungi can live in an atmosphere with a high oxygen concentration, all diseases caused by these pathogens are potentially curable through the action of ozone.

In the dental clinic it can be used in the following ways:

- In the cleaning of bone and soft tissue wounds.
- To reinforce the oxygen supply to the area of a surgical wound to improve healing
- As an antiseptic to treat paradontosis, stomatitis, alveolitis and in preparation for oral surgery.

CARIES AND OZONE THERAPY
Caries is defined as a chemical dissolution of the hard tissues of the tooth, produced by the acid products of the degradation of sugars by bacteria; it corresponds to an infectious, transmissible, polymicrobial and localised disease that affects dental tissues.
Caries is created by a limited group of microorganisms present in the microflora and dental plaque; these microorganisms colonise the biofilm and cause demineralisation resulting in caries.
Currently there are a large number of disinfectants that can be used in dentistry, our aim is to find an alternative in disinfection of carious cavities, to reduce the bacterial load before performing a definitive filling, helping to reduce the likelihood of caries recurrence and ozone therapy is the least invasive and most effective method.
