FIXED DENTAL IMPLANTS
Another method of replacement in case of loss of teeth is the implant. This method consists of placing an implant in the bone using a surgical technique. Once the osseointegration period has elapsed (which varies according to each patient, between 2 and 5 months), the crown is placed on the implant.
Dental implants are elements that are used to replace the roots of our natural teeth. Once integrated into the alveolar bone, they can be used to place fixed or removable prostheses on them. AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?
If you are in good health and/or even if you have a disease, as long as it is under control, you can receive dental implants. However, this technique is usually not recommended for people taking certain medications or suffering from a serious health problem that is not under control, as well as for pregnant women.
Nor should implants be placed in adolescents, since their facial development is still incomplete and can produce negative aesthetic results.

DO DENTAL IMPLANTS HURT?
The placement of dental implants is not a painful process as it is carried out under local anaesthesia. However, discomfort may occur after surgery, which can be relieved with painkillers, but severe post-operative pain is very rare.

HOW LONG DO IMPLANTS LAST?
There are long-term studies that have evaluated the performance of some implants over a period of more than 35 years, and others over 20 years that show that 80% of these implants continue to function.
The most current reports indicate that 90% of implants placed 10 years ago remain in place today. However, implants placed today are rougher because they bond better to the bone. It is believed that they may have a worse long-term outcome, but there are no studies yet that can confirm this as they have only been in use for a short time.

HOW LONG DOES THE PLACEMENT PROCESS TAKE?
Implants usually require an integration phase of two to four months before the prosthesis can be fitted, but in some very specific cases they can be fitted on the same day that the implant has been made and, therefore, on the same day that the tooth to be replaced has been extracted. This process is called immediate loading.

WILL I HAVE THE GAP FOR A LONG TIME?
Don’t worry if your case is not the above; there is another option for not having to show the empty gap of the missing tooth with the metal implant. In most cases it is possible to insert a temporary crown or bridge or a removable prosthesis over the implants during the healing process before placing the definitive prosthesis.
